Your Heart
A learning center for cardiac patients and family members

Heart disease is one of the most common health issues facing Americans today, yet an overwhelming number of people lack a basic understanding of the subject. Your Heart, a permanent exhibition at Missouri Baptist Medical Center, provides a comprehensive overview of basic heart functions, disease prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation. Our team employed illustration, animation, narratives and medical devices to present the sensitive and complex subject matter in a form easily accessible to a diverse audience.

Central structure explains basic heart functions and diagnostics.

Visual exploration
I gathered literature and illustrations from all mediums to learn where we could improve on content and to gain an understanding of how patients were coming in contact with this information. Concepts for our illustrations ranged from abstract and schematic to photo-realistic.

Final illustration explaining bypass surgery.

Simplifying complex information
Exhibition section describing blocked arteries with conversational questions leading into the content. Illustrations show step-by-step process, before and after, and simple comparisons of healthy and diseased hearts.
